Privacy Policy
1. Data stored on your device
Your habits, completion records, streaks, reminders, and settings are stored locally on your iPhone. HabitBalance has no sign-up and no user accounts; there is no cloud copy of your data operated by us. If you delete the app, that data is deleted with it (except for backup files you exported yourself).
2. What we don't do
- No advertising, and no advertising SDKs.
- No analytics or tracking SDKs of any kind.
- No selling or sharing of data — we have no user data to sell.
- No "tracking" as defined by Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework, in any state of the app.
3. The optional AI Assistant
HabitBalance includes an optional, subscription-gated AI feature (habit ideas and plain-language history summaries). It is off by default and does nothing until you explicitly enable it. Before any data leaves your device, a dedicated permission screen ("Share Your Data with Anthropic?") names the AI provider, lists exactly what will be sent, and asks you to choose Allow Sharing with Anthropic or Don't Allow. Nothing is sent unless you allow it.
What is sent, and when
- Only when you trigger a request (tapping an AI card or action) — never in the background, never on a schedule.
- Your habit data: habit names; each habit's daily done/not-done pattern for the last 28 days; any notes you have written on a habit; each measurable habit's goal (target value, unit, and at-least/at-most direction); and each habit's schedule. For history insights, also today's completion percentage and your 28-day average.
- An anonymous, randomly generated identifier used only to enforce a daily request limit and prevent abuse. It is not a login, has no password, and is never linked to your name, email, or any real-world identity.
How it is collected and used
The app assembles this data on your device at the moment you tap an AI action and sends it once, over an encrypted (TLS) connection. It is used for one purpose only: generating the habit suggestion or history summary you asked for, which is returned to your device. It is never used for advertising, profiling, or tracking, and never sold.
Who processes it
Requests go to our own backend (Google Firebase), which forwards them to Anthropic's Claude to generate the response. On success, nothing is stored server-side — no logs and no profiles. If a request fails, the server logs only minimal metadata (the anonymous identifier, which feature was called, and the error) — never the content of your request or its response.
Third party: Anthropic, PBC. Anthropic processes these requests on our behalf under its commercial API terms, which do not permit it to use the data to train its models. Anthropic provides protection for this data equal to or greater than the protections described in this policy. Google (Firebase) hosts our backend under its Cloud data-processing terms, with the same standard.
You can turn the AI Assistant off at any time in Settings; the rest of the app is fully functional without it and works completely offline.
4. Feedback form
If you use the optional Send Feedback form in Settings, the text you type plus the app and iOS version are posted as an issue in our own GitHub repository. Nothing else is attached, and nothing is sent unless you submit the form.
5. Purchases
In-app purchases (the one-time Pro unlock and the AI Assistant subscription) are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never receive your payment method, billing address, or any financial information; the app only reads your entitlement state from Apple's StoreKit framework.
6. Backups
Backup export and import are local file operations that you initiate. Exported files are saved where you choose (Files app or share sheet) and are under your control. Importing a password-protected HabitBalance backup file is decrypted on your device with the password you provide; the file and password are never sent anywhere.
7. Children
HabitBalance is not directed at children, and because the app collects no personal data by default, no personal data is collected from anyone, including children.
8. Changes to this policy
If HabitBalance's data practices ever change — for example, if the optional AI Assistant's behavior changes — this policy and the app's App Store privacy label will be updated at the same time. The effective date at the top always reflects the latest revision.
